Sonni

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

One of our favorite things is introducing children to contemporary artists in our mobile art classes and in our virtual Art Club. Contemporary art is relatable for children, because it's about the world that they live in; it's about what’s happening now, and in recent history.

One of the contemporary artists spotlighted in our Art Club is Adrian Sonni known simply as Sonni (pronounced sunny). He’s a contemporary artist and muralist from Buenos Aires, Argentina who now lives in Brooklyn, New York. He began his career in graphic design and illustration and currently works as a freelance art director for animation. In addition, he exhibits in galleries, sells prints of his artwork, and paints public murals around the world.

While in Buenos Aires he began making street art: stickers and artwork that were pasted onto buildings and later he painted murals. In Argentina, street art is not frowned upon as it is in the United States and other parts of the world.

We chose Sonni because his artwork is playful with simple shapes and primary colors. Kids love his work because he taps into his inner child with images of animals, food and whimsical inanimate objects. One of his goals is to design a children's playground!

One of our favorite things is his boombox building. As part of Art Basel week in Miami, Sonni was commissioned to transform an abandoned two-story building. He did just that, and his whimsical building, painted in primary colors, can be seen from I-95. We're sure it's a welcome sight for commuters stuck in gridlock!
